I imagine it's hard to write a book like this - a biographical work of fiction. You have basically already got your story and all of your characters mapped out for you and that doesn't leave a lot of leeway for creativity. In some respects that makes it sound like it will be easy, but you'll write this knowing full well that there are people out there who may know what was really said or what was really done or how it really happened. So, you'd better do your research and be able to write. The Paris Wife is the story of the relationship between Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley Richardson. Their marriage followed a whirlwind romance and courtship and led them to Paris. There, Ernest tried to make a name for himself and Hadley supported him. Surrounding Ernest & Hadley are all of those artists who made up the 'Lost Generation' in the Jazz Age - The Fitzgerald's, Ford Maddox Ford, Gertrude Stein... The book is good, but it's a little 'ho-hum' at times. I think it's because that's the way they were, both those Lost Generation folks and the Hemingway's. The artists of the Jazz Age always seemed somewhat ambivalent about life, trying their hardest to seem carefree but really coming off as sad. The Paris Wife is a sad story and I already knew how it ended, But still, I couldn't put it down.
