When I read John Hodgman's work I always feel as though he's been bugging my apartment: his style is such a specific strain of quirky, incisive, and occasionally disturbing that I can't help but wonder if this wasn't written just for me. Hodgman could have been writing urban fantasy or modern horror with some of these ideas, but he instead chose to take those ideas in a very unique direction, and I think that's what I admire most. Though I will say that I didn't find the mole-man names quite as funny as the hobo names, but that's made up for by the Literary Tone Detector ad. Recommended to anyone who wants their world to be a little weirder, or lovers of egg-shaped men with sallow skin.
I loved this book so much I got it on CD to listen to again. McCourt reads his own work beautifully. I AM teacher so adored all the stories he told and the personal nature of "his" experiences.
