Before I read this book I felt like diabetes was my enemy and it drained me emotionally and physically. I have never experienced such frustration, anger and depression from anything in life before my diagnosis. This book helped me understand that diabetes is not a reflection on my value as a woman and it does not carry a good or bad label. It just is. This book was therapeutic and reminded me that I am not perfect, I am not superwoman (as much as I desperately try to be!) and I need to set reasonable expectations for myself in managing this disease. It also reminded me living in fear wastes precious energy and time and I need to focus on the positive, much easier said than done when my blood sugar refuses to cooperate but I'm trying. This book was very inspirational and helped clear my head of a lot of doubt and negative thoughts. Lots of great helpful information on the effects of diabetes on menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and heart disease, although I am twice as likely to develop heart disease than a woman without diabetes and it could happen when I am young, but there I go again being negative :)
I love Richard Peck. He makes me laugh and he made my children laugh as I read them his tales. Great young readers books.
