Amazing. Absolutely amazing.... just as good as Outlander, if not better. Her writing is so wonderful, and tense and passionate and I love the characters. There were a lot of shocking parts and revelations, both of which I love in the right context of the story. I finished it at work and it was difficult not to cry at some parts; I get quite emotional when I read both for happy and sad reasons. At the risk of sounding like a terrible reader, I have to admit that I peeked ahead and read the synopses on the backs of the next books in the series. I didn't want to ruin anything for myself but at the same time I knew I wouldn't be able to get through the books and the impending tragedies without having a hint of what was to come. It gives me anxiety to not know, and the pleasure is never dulled when I read... I never outright ruin anything, but I will open to random pages just to see what characters' names are on the page. It's terrible!! I do not always do this, mind you, but sometimes I am unable to stop myself. It's mainly because I care about the characters too much, and it is different than having someone else ruin it for you. I control how much I let slip. In any case, this book was wonderful for all the reasons I loved Outlander; I've already purchased the next in the series, Voyager, and can't wait to start it! I do love how much genealogy is also a part of the narrative. Makes me want to look in my family tree for some Frasers of my own =) I do have some Scottish relatives of that period.
